
THE GOVERNOR OF NIGER STATE, UMARU BAGO HAS BEEN CHARGED TO ISSUE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER BANNING MARKER’S DAY AND SIGN-OUT CELEBRATIONS IN ALL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECONDARY AND TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS ACROSS THE STATE.
THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MADE THE DEMAND AFTER A MOTION MOVED BY HON. MUHAMMAD IDRIS, REPRESENTING TAFA CONSTITUENCY, WHO EXPRESSED CONCERN OVER THE INCREASING INCIDENTS OF UNRULY BEHAVIOUR AND IMMORAL ACTIVITIES DURING SUCH CELEBRATIONS.
HON. IDRIS NOTED THAT THE INITIAL PURPOSE OF THE SIGN-OUT TRADITION, INTENDED TO CELEBRATE THE END OF SCHOOL SESSIONS FOR GRADUATING STUDENTS HAS BEEN OVERSHADOWED BY TROUBLING INCIDENTS THAT COULD HINDER EFFORTS TO DEVELOP RESPONSIBLE AND WELL-ROUNDED STUDENTS.
DEPUTY SPEAKER HON. AFINIKI DAUDA, WHO PRESIDED OVER THE PLENARY, PLEDGED TO FOLLOW UP WITH THE STATE GOVERNOR AND THE STATE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION TO ENSURE THE PROMPT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BAN.
