THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS DISMISSED CLAIMS SUGGESTING THE EMERGENCE OF A NEW TERRORIST ORGANIZATION WITHIN NIGERIA.
THIS CLARIFICATION FOLLOWS CONCERNS RAISED BY THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT OVER THE ALLEGED PRESENCE OF THE FETHULLAH TERRORIST ORGANISATION (FETO), A GROUP IT ACCUSES OF OPERATING COVERTLY IN NIGERIA AND SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES.
TURKISH AMBASSADOR-DESIGNATE TO NIGERIA, MEHMET POROY, ALLEGED THAT THE GROUP HAS BEEN DISGUISING ITS ACTIVITIES UNDER THE GUISE OF PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL AND HEALTH-RELATED SERVICES IN THE COUNTRY.
HOWEVER, SPEAKING IN AN INTERVIEW WITH NEWSMEN, THE COORDINATOR OF THE NATIONAL COUNTER-TERRORISM CENTRE, MAJ GEN ADAMU LAKA, URGED NIGERIANS NOT TO PANIC, STATING THAT NO NEW TERRORIST GROUP EXISTED IN THE COUNTRY.
