EKITI FIRST LADY FLAGS OFF 2025 BREASTFEEDING WEEK, URGES EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING

THE WIFE OF THE EKITI STATE GOVERNOR, DR OLAYEMI OYEBANJI, HAS ENCOURAGED NURSING MOTHERS AND CAREGIVERS TO ADOPT EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING AS PART OF EFFORTS TO IMPROVE CHILD HEALTH IN THE STATE.

SHE MADE THE CALL AT THE LAUNCH OF THE 2025 WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK, WHICH FOCUSED ON PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE SYSTEMS THAT SUPPORT BREASTFEEDING PRACTICES.

SPEAKING THROUGH A REPRESENTATIVE, DR OYEBANJI OUTLINED THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BREASTFEEDING, INCLUDING PROTECTION AGAINST INFECTIONS, REDUCED CHILD MORTALITY, AND IMPROVED COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT.

SHE ALSO EMPHASIZED THE NEED FOR COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY AMONG PARENTS, CAREGIVERS, HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, AND POLICYMAKERS TO CREATE A BREASTFEEDING-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT. OFFICIALS OF THE STATE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY NOTED THE STATE’S ONGOING MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH EFFORTS AND URGED MOTHERS TO EMBRACE EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING FOR HEALTHIER AND MORE ACTIVE CHILDREN.
