FG LAUNCHES AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT TO FACILITATE MASSIVE FOOD PRODUCTION

FARMING EQUIPMENT INCLUDING TWO THOUSAND TRACTORS, 2,000 DISC PLOUGHS AND HARROWS, AND 1,000 DISC RIDGERS HAVE BEEN UNVEILEID BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AS PART OF EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE MASSIVE PRODUCTION OF FOOD AND CASH CROPS.

THE DEVICES IMPORTED FROM THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS WAS DISTRIBUTED AFTER THE INAUGURATION BY PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU IN ABUJA.

SPEAKING AT THE EVENT PRESIDENT TINUBU EXPLAINED THAT THE LAUNCH IS PART OF HIS GOVERNMENT’S INITIATIVES AIMED AT WOOING THE YOUTH INTO MECHANISED FARMING, ENSURING FOOD SECURITY AND POSITIONING THE COUNTRY AS A GLOBAL COMPETITOR.

HE ADDED THAT THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE AGRICULTURAL TOOLS WOULD MARK A SHIFT FROM SUBSISTENCE FARMING TO TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN AND LARGE-SCALE AGRICULTURE.

THE NEW AGRICULTURAL PROGRAMME, INITIATED THROUGH A BILATERAL AGREEMENT WITH THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS, WILL SEE 550,000 HECTARES OF FARMLAND BEING PUT INTO PRODUCTION, THE GENERATION OF MORE THAN TWO MILLION METRIC TONS OF FOOD YEARLY AND THE CREATION OF OVER 16,000 JOBS.
